MY NAME IS TAISEN SPRING
Born in 1985, I became fascinated by herbs at an early age and studied herbalism throughout my teenage years. I eventually earned certificates in clinical herbalism under K.P. Khalsa for two solid years, continuously through bothsummers, at International Integrative Educational Institute as well as Portland Community College. Further studies have been under Sajah Popham in Evolutionary Herbalism and tons of continuous self study and miscellaneous mini courses.
I offer my well rounded knowledge of traditional and cutting edge herbalism and how it can be applied to your specific constitution and life. I enjoy helping people understand how these systems of medicine can be applied to themselves. I appreciate the correspondences of different systems of medicine and modern science observing parallel ways of looking at a health condition. By taking a step back, instead of becoming glued to a detail, we can see how these themes all interconnect and paint a bigger picture. I believe the most important part of herbal studies is to understand how these concepts are applied to your situation and how the herbs are doing their job.
I can help you navigate through the sea of information on health and learn the distinctions of what is appropriate for you and what is not. Yes, an herb can benefit one person while harming another, even if they have the same medical diagnosis. I work primarily with Ayurveda followed by Chinese herbs both in accordance to their traditional system. I also incorporate Western herbs and whatever else has been found useful in clinical studies. Herb powders can be mixed into soups and smoothies (I have many food combining tips for different herbs) or swallowed in gelcap pills. Some herbs can be infused in water like a typical cup of tea, while other herbs are best decocted in water at a slow simmer which is the traditional Chinese method. Food and supplements are also important in this healing protocol, along with differing healthy habits for different types of people.
Most importantly, the individual is recognized as unique and the healing works by being modified to the individual. Many misunderstandings in literature come about due to the fact that two clients with the same condition may need completely different medicine, therefore causing a study on the general public to fail. Global Herbalism is focused beyond just a medical diagnosis, by also encompassing the individual's constitution, doshas (archetypal patterns), and individual characteristics enabling the bodies ability to come back to balance and heal.
