herbal counseling & education

 Many people including myself have gone decades taking the wrong herbs because they were "good for me" not understanding the balance of energetics that our fast paced world of herbal consumption has forgotten about. Yes, taking the wrong herbs can hurt you, not only that but it can be a waste of money and natural resources. When you truly understand your constitutional pattern of body and mind then you can truly match the right herbs to yourself. For example someone who gets angry easily will want to avoid "hot" herbs and may benefit from nervine sedatives and herbs that are said to have "cooling energetics". We can also explore what those herbs may be for yourself and go deeper into the details of your individuality. We can even explore what herbs you already take or what you want to take and see how it resonates with your current health as well as ways to balance out the herbs you may already be taking. This is a very complex matter to discuss so feel free to read on and allow it to sink in as you read.

 You will learn traditional herbal concepts and how they relate to yourself and understand where you specifically stand within it all. You can learn how to apply herbs to your unique body type, health patterns, energetics, personality traits, personal goals, interests and unique needs.

 This is a one on one experience purposely lacking much structure so that it can bend to the interest of the individual. Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, Western herbalism, psychological profile, emotional healing, energetics, health goals, spiritual goals or just talking about your favorite herbs are all examples of different directions possible. There are many different ways to go about it, ultimately catering to the individual interest.

One person's cure is someone else's poison. The herbs are secondary to understanding the individuals constitution AKA the systemic and energetic health pattern that is unique to you.

"It is more important to know what kind of person has a disease than to know what kind of disease a person has" -Hippocrates,  known as the father of medicine.

Ayurveda

Ayur = life, Veda = science

Ancient system of India, sister science to Yoga. The oldest indigenous medical system. It links the mind with the body and is the origin of surgery as we know it. Ayurvedic practitioners were performing successful brain surgery and cataract removal thousands of years ago as well as supplying much more other knowledge that has beenadopted into our modern use. Ayurveda is based on the three doshas, which are entangled characteristics of body and mind represented by the five elements (ether, air, fire, water, earth). The doshas are:

Vata = Air + Ether

Pitta = Fire + Water

Kapha = Earth + Water

CHINESE MEDICINE

A philosophical system based on thousands of years of observation expressed in terms of energy that can be broken up into organs. The organs can represent energies of the body more than the literal organ itself. These energies are now widely recognized in acupuncture.  Tang dynasty physicians were first to identify in writing that diabetes patients had excess sugar in their urine and should avoid alcohol and starchy foods. Also first to use animal thyroid glands to treat goiters before the West discovered it in 1890. (don't worry this technique won't be recommended)

TCM has a different list of elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.

 WESTERN HERBALISM + SUPPLEMENTS

Started as European medicine going back to Greece and Egypt. Western herbalism is mostly used in European countries, but it has also evolved in the US into North American herbalism. Much of the historical health care depended upon Western herbalism before the Rockefellers invested in patentable pharmaceuticals, reducing it's relative funding to allow it to be drowned out of mainstream use. It has, in the US, absorbed some of the Native American herbal practices. Many different practitioners relate Western herbalism to varying spiritual paths or philosophies. This system of medicine is somewhat lacking a general consensus of a core diagnostic system, but mostly relies on science and individual herbalists clinical findings that build and expand on their teachers.

Disclaimer: Doctors have been arrested for curing cancer with unconventional methods. video It is illegal for any herbalist to say they "treat" or "cure" any diagnosis from a medical doctor unless they are licensed to make a medical diagnosis themselves. Therefore I do not claim to treat or cure any official diagnosis. Ayurveda and TCM terminology will be used in place of any official medical diagnosis listed as has been the traditional way of explanation since before western medicine.

success

  1. Involves understanding yourself and what regular intake of herbs is appropriate for you with possible supplements, food as medicine, and lifestyle choices.
  2. May be resolved in just days for some issues, but may take weeks or months for most chronic conditions and years for some serious life destabilizing conditions.
  3. Empower yourself to know how to take care of your body by bringing it back to balance so it can self regulate itself with long lasting health.
  4. Individualized formulas for each unique individual in a truly holistic manner.

services:

other services: clinical protocol

I also offer herbal protocols for any negative health conditions you may be experiencing. This will also take into consideration your constitutional body type and energetics along with my expertise in my clinical herbalist training. We will have an initial intake/interview about you and your health for about 30 minutes, followed by 30 more minutes of Q & A and explanations about herbs, diet and lifestyle choices in the context of Ayurveda, TCM and Western herbalism. You will learn exactly how these ancient and modern theories apply to you and your situation at hand, but this option will be focused more on my recommended herbal protocol and herbal formulating in response to an unwanted health situation you need precise recommendations for. If you are interested in having a better understanding of how to choose your own herbs then this is not your choice. A regular meeting would be indicated. If you choose this option looking for a clinical herbalism protocol, the herbal protocol will be written up after the meeting and sent in your e-mail and discussed further on the phone if needed.

Location is the same as herbal counseling ------->

I do not sell herbs for profit, but as free assistance I can help you find appropriate sources online after the meeting.

Herbal Counseling:

One hour of my time will be dedicated to you and your desire to understand how to personally relate to herbs and their traditional systems of medicine. There are many categories of herbs and different types of herbs and some are indicated for certain types of people and some are contraindicated for others. I call this a meeting because it is not a class about herbs, it is a meeting about how you personally can relate to herbs based on your patterns of health and what you want to attain. Feel free to ask whatever you want and make it about you!

In person is preferred. Online requires video chat (skype or other).

Online meetings: I will ask you to take a picture of your tongue in clear lighting and send it through e-mail or text prior to meeting. Preferably 3 photos in different lighting if possible.

In person and online meetings: It is recommended but not required that you come ready to take notes or record the session in whatever way you want but it is up to you to do so.

Location:

We can meet somewhere in St. John's Portland Oregon as long as it is acceptable to stay there for an hour straight. Places that could work are a coffee shop, outdoors (depends on weather), or your house if you feel comfortable with inviting me over. Feel free to suggest whatever makes sense to you. Online is also an option.

PAYMENT for Herbal Counseling:
